In this section, I've included some of my own photos. Click on the audio player, too, if you like music.
Thailand
Some interesting facts about Thailand:
I made my first visit to Thailand about 4 years ago. I began by exploring Bangkok - from the rich, colorful nightlife, to the famous Floating Market (Damnoen Saduak).
Damnoen Saduak is like no other market you've seen. There are no streets or alleys to walk; instead, all shopping is done from a river teeming with long-tailed boats. Vendors selling every conceivable item use long hooks to pull the boats in, and customers point out their preferences from within the boat.
I also visited the peaceful, ancient city of Ayuthayya, the first capital of Thailand, as well as Chiang Rai, in northern Thailand: a spot in which Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos are all within close proximity to each other.
Here are some of my photos from these places:
- In terms of land, Thailand is the 51st largest country, and the 20th most populous country, with 64 million people
- Thailand is the world's largest exporter of rice
- Although prostitution is illegal, it is the world's largest sex-tourism hub
- Every Thai male has to take up monkhood at some point in his life, even if only for a short period
- The primary religion is Buddhism, which is practiced by 95% of the population
- Thailand is the only Southeast Asian country to have never been a colony
- The national sport is "Muay Thai", a native form of kickboxing
