Can Tattoos be Medicinal?“The earliest evidence we have of tattoos, not surprisingly, is cosmetic,” says anthropologist Lars Krutak. "But the second oldest we have is medicinal."
This interesting article explores some examples of tattooing around the world - in both past and present cultures - that help combat ailments. Perhaps the most dramatic example was the discovery of tattoo marks on a 5,300 year old mummy - nicknamed "The Iceman" - that corresponded to classical Chinese acupuncture meridians. Krutak's explorations of tattooing were the subject of "Tattoo Hunter", a 10-part TV series on the Discovery Channel.
