A funny thing happened on the way to the store: supermarkets (and some governments) around the world decided to finally tackle the enormous problem of food waste. Their solutions address different aspects of the problem, and should be a good start to reduce the 30% - 50% of food that is wasted by Western countries.

Ethiopians are serious about their coffee; they drink 50% of all that's produced there, and would drink all of it if they could.
But the Ethiopian government wants revenue from coffee exports to build infrastructure - so it's setting restrictions, and shipping all the "good beans" to other countries. So who owns the beans? |

And Now, for the Truly Bizarre... KFC Launches "Edible" Nail Polish in Hong Kong
I had trouble believing this - but apparently, Kentucky Fried Chicken has just unveiled an edible nail polish in Hong Kong that it says tastes like fried chicken.
Made from "natural" ingredients, the polish will expire in 5 days. |

Budapest Foodies Hope Cuisine Can Help Heal Anti-Migrant Prejudice
Some Budapest eateries have been serving up food from Syria, Afghanistan, Eritrea and Somalia in solidarity with migrants and refugees streaming into Hungary from those countries. It's all part of the Körítés food festival, which aims to combat xenophobia through cuisine.
